A championship past - and a brilliant future
The 2023-24 season was another outstanding year for UMBC Mock Trial! During this most recent season, UMBC Mock Trial returned to the AMTA National Championship Tournament (NCT) for the sixth time in eight years. This was also UMBC’s tenth consecutive season advancing to the national semifinal tournament. Advancing to Nationals is extraordinarily difficult, as only 48 of the 700+ teams across the country qualify each year. This accomplishment followed a challenging and thrilling invitational season where UMBC traveled the country and competed against the best programs around the nation.

In addition to advancing to Nationals, UMBC Mock Trial earned several additional honors throughout the season. Witness Isaiah Dunn was named an All-American at Nationals, which is the highest individual honor in collegiate Mock Trial. Numerous other individual competitors earned Outstanding Attorney and Outstanding Witness awards throughout the season, and UMBC’s teams earned several awards at tournaments for their collegiality and fair play.
Despite being composed almost entirely of freshmen and sophomore members, both UMBC A and UMBC B excelled this season and continued to show that UMBC is one of the nation’s elite Mock Trial programs.

Success like what UMBC Mock Trial accomplished this year and in past years can only be achieved with funding and support from donors like you. We are still dealing with significant budget cuts that occurred after the 2022-23 season, and our 2024-25 budget will be nearly 75% less than it was just two years ago.
If we can meet and exceed our $3,000 fundraising goal, we can use those funds to cover various expenses throughout the fall and winter seasons, such as:
- $500 in registration fees for fall and winter invitational tournaments
- $500 in transportation costs such as train tickets, rental vehicles, and gas and toll expenses needed to get us to those tournaments
- $2,000 in hotel and lodging expenses
Every dollar of our budget goes to paying for hotels, transportation, tournament exhibits, and team meals. We have a program policy that allows every member of UMBC Mock Trial to compete regardless of financial circumstance, and most of our budget goes toward making that possible.
We are excited for another fantastic season in 2024-25, and we look forward to traveling to invitational tournaments in New York, Philadelphia, Williamsburg, Washington D.C., and more. We have a passionate and motivated group of returning members working hard to guide the program back to Nationals, and we just welcomed a fantastic class of new members to help in that effort. UMBC Mock Trial has a storied past, from our 2021 National Championship to our five Nationals appearances since 2017, and we need your help to build for the future.
If you are not able to donate, we understand and would appreciate you sharing this page on social media or with friends and family who may be able to give. Thank you for your support of UMBC Mock Trial, and we are excited for all the amazing things to come!
